Silicone Rubber Surface Conditions – With Talc or Without Talc

Silicone with or without talc
When ordering a cheesesteak in Philadelphia it is common when asked if you want onions to respond “Wit” or “Wit-out”. At Stockwell Elastomerics, we also believe that the customer should be able to select a product just the way they like it too – in this case, silicone rubber with or without talc.

Silicone rubber is often manufactured with a light application of talcum powder. Talc is applied to continuous run silicone sheets before it’s rolled up to prevent the rubber from sticking to itself. In some cases, customers have an aversion to the light powder coating on their parts. Talc free silicone may be needed to increase the coefficient of friction, ensure chemical purity, or where cleanliness is paramount to a process or end user.

Stockwell Elastomerics offers select varieties of silicone rubber manufactured without talc. These include cast silicone rolls, calendared silicone rubber and molded silicone sheets. Stockwell Elastomerics’ customer service and engineering team are well-versed in the surface conditions of the materials offered and are always happy to aid in selection of the most appropriate material for the application.
