Stockwell Elastomerics now offers Dow’s XIAMETER™ RBL-9591-50 liquid silicone rubber (LSR), a 50-durometer, moldable compound with low compression set that is certified to UL 94V-0, a strong flame rating for this type of material.
For electronics systems where fire is a significant risk, using materials with a sufficient flame rating is of high importance. Often these applications require gaskets that meet specifications outlined by the Underwriter Laboratories (UL). One of these specs, UL 94V-0, is an aggressive flame rating that is widely required in high-performance applications ranging from aerospace to phone receivers, household ovens, and almost anything else with an electrical system. UL 94V-0 refers to a vertical burn test and requires burning to cease after 10 seconds with no flaming “drips” allowed.
Dow’s XIAMETER™ RBL-9591-50 Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) (view XIAMETER™ RBL-9591-50 data sheet PDF) is a 50-durometer, moldable compound with low compression set certified to UL 94V-0. Stockwell Elastomerics’ in-house LSR molding capabilities make this material a desirable solution when part geometry, tolerances, or quantities are better suited in a molded part. In addition, Stockwell Elastomerics’ silicone sheet molding capabilities allow for quick prototype turnaround for material qualification by waterjet cutting from in-house molded sheet stock. This allows a seamless transition using the same materials for prototype and production.
In addition to XIAMETER™ RBL-9591-50, Stockwell Elastomerics also carries Rogers’ HT-6360 65-durometer cast LSR (view HT-6360 data sheet PDF), available in roll stock, for when molding capabilities are not required. This solid silicone is also certified to UL 94V-0 and is available in multiple thicknesses off the shelf. In addition, Stockwell Elastomerics carries many UL 94V-0 silicone sponge and silicone foam materials, as well as many UL 94HB rated solid silicone materials.
Stockwell Elastomerics’ experienced and knowledgeable applications engineers can offer engineering assistance and guidance on flame rated materials and liquid injection molding operations. Contact Stockwell Elastomerics for further assistance.
